Prague's rich history combines the history of the Duchy of Bohemia with great moments in European history. Prague's accession to the status of capital of the Holy Roman Empire makes it the living heart of Europe. The 20th century and the Cold War temporarily took the city away from the European scene.

The "Prague Spring" in 1968 then the "Velvet Revolution", in 1989 allowed this city and the country to obtain their independence from the Nazis and the Communists.
