Lourmarin Castle is a Renaissance style castle and was built in 1480. It dominates the village of Lourmarin. Restored between 1921 and 1923 by Robert Laurent-Vibert, it currently houses a Cultural Foundation1. It has been listed in the Register of Historic Monuments since 1979.
The castle was built on the remains of an ancient fortress from the 12th century, in medieval style. From the French Revolution onwards, the castle passed through the hands of several owners of varying fortunes and eventually fell into ruin. In 1920, when it was going to be sold at auction for the recovery of the stones, Robert Laurent-Vibert bought it. This Lyon industrialist, a great art lover, wants to make it an artists' residence.
